Everyone should absolutely play Deadly Premonition. Hell, even this edition should be played if its your only option, but only in that case. And dont pay 40 bucks for it. Theres still a great, incredibly charming game here thats unlike anything youve played before. Its a wholly unique experience, but the Directors Cut is not the best way to experience it.

SM writes:
I received my copy of Deadly Premonition Directors Cut yesterday and was able to put a few hours into the game last night after work. I was pretty worried that the game wouldnt run smoothly due to the reports of bugs by fans who purchased the PAL release last Friday but Im happy to report that the NTSC version of the game is running smoothy for me so far.
Thats not to say the game doesnt have issues but they are pretty minor compared to the Silent Hill HD Collection technical fiasco I was picturing in my head! Heres some of my first impressions.

DHGF: Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut is basically the same game as the first, but with upscaled graphics, a few new cut scenes and massively improved controls, making the game far more accessible to the average person. The games story is still as brilliant, surreal, and bizarre as ever, and while the game wont appeal to everyone, those who miss the titles like Clock Tower, Hellnight, Shadow Hearts and Enemy Zero will love this, while other gamers will be left shaking their head at the sheer amount of adoration this title gets. Sure, its easy to write-off Deadly Premonition as a Twin Peaks homage or even a rip-off of Lynchs seminal TV series, but its just as much influenced by Mizzurna Falls, a fifteen years old PSX game that itself was a tribute to Twin Peaks. The bottom line is, its been years since a game has sucked me in as totally and utterly as Deadly Premonition has, be it in its current form or as Red Seeds Profile. It is definitely NOT a game for everyone, but...

Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut is a surreal game. It goes away from many of the clichés associated with the genre. Therefore you should add it to your collection, if only to add diversity to your entertainment.

If you were a fan of Deadly Premonition and youre eager to relive the experience or view the new scenes, the game is absolutely worth a BUY. Likewise, if youre a newcomer to the series, the Directors Cut is the best version available.
If you hated the original, purchasing the game depends on what you hated: the controls or the story? If the controls kept you away from the original, the Directors Cut is your chance to dive right in. If the story wasnt your cup of coffee, youd do well to continue avoiding this game.
